The German road network has a length of over 830,000 kilometers. In order to enable road operators to manage this infrastructure in all life cycle stages, digital processes for condition assessment and maintenance planning are enormously important. To build and hone these digital processes, comprehensive and continuously updated data on road infrastructure are essential. In a 3-year project, Point Cloud Technology is working with the city of Essen, the Hasso Plattner Institute and Straßen NRW to create a cloud-based system usable for service providers, authorities, and municipalities. Point Cloud Technology contributes its expertise in the development of software systems for processing and analyzing large amounts of data, particularly point cloud data, to this project.

“The planned system represents a highly innovative solution for many municipalities and road operators who want to implement maintenance planning in a data-oriented manner. As a result, the availability, road safety and use of the road infrastructure will be improved. Simplified recommendations for action can also be derived for all life cycles of roads.”
